The key sheet of the scheme for the Lower Manawatu River begins at the mouth of the river reaching as far as Ashhurst and the Pohangina River. The scheme for the Oroua River is also included, from the junction near Rangiotu to the vicinity of Feilding. Notes about proposed work are referred to in key. This base map has been used to indicate the flood of January 1953, ponded areas, overflows and ponded volumes, also referred to in a key.

The four sheets held by the Alexander Turnbull Library are part of an enlargement of the key sheet and include greater detail of proposed and existing stopbanks, rock protection, willow protection, proposed cuts, existing and proposed levels, flood levels and the berm to be lowered. existing and proposed levels which are all referred to in keys. Added to these base maps are shaded areas representing the January 1953 flood, ponded areas, overflows and ponded volumes, referred to in a key.
