Major Donald McKenzie and medical staff who removed an anti tank shell from the chest of a British soldier at a field hospital near Alamein, Egypt, in World War II. L to R, L Sorensen (Bay of Is), Captain H Williams, Major McKenzie (holding shell) and Sergeant R Brown (Auck). Capt Williams acted as anaesthetist and the other two acted as orderlies to Major McKenzie. Photograph taken circa October 1942 by M D Elias.
