Description

John Fox's house, Paihia, photographed 11 May 1903 by Russell James Duncan.

Inscriptions: Mount recto - beneath image - John Fox's house, Paihia; Mount verso - top centre - Bishop W L William writes: "Captain Jacob, of the East India Company's service, visited the Bay of Islands in February 1833, and in March he wrote 'One native, a chief, baptized by the name of David, had built himself a stone house in the English style'. This is what is now known as John Fox's house".
