Shows a full-length portrait of Adam Cairns, an Auckland City councillor, and licensee of the Star Hotel. He is bearded and wears a top hat and suit, and rests his right hand on a furled umbrella.
There is a scallop shell and staff logo at lower right, possibly the logo of artist Charles Palmer.
