Description

Shows a kea (above) and a kaka (below). The kea is perched on a rock, with its wings raised, showing the red colouring beneath. The kaka is perched on the branch of a flowering puriri tree.

The body position of each bird is a mirror image of the illustration by Keulemans in A history of the birds of New Zealand. 1st ed. (London, 1873) opp. p.52. However the birds are arranged vertically within the image.
