An extensive view of a bay at Akaroa, with hills in the background. A group of men is hauling in a purse-seine net on the left and two small fishing boats are at the water's edge. A European ship, possibly the artist's ship, Le Rhin, is moored in the stream in the middle distance. The bay depicted may be Takamatua just north of Akaroa township
