Photographs of people and their occupations, made for publication in the New Zealand Free Lance in 1939 and 1940. Includes photographs made to accompany stories relating to: Whitebaiting, floods, hedgehogs, movie extras and a Plimmerton fisherman. Also includes photographs of Kauri gum being weighed, lace being made, a cattle auction, handloom weaving, mussel dredging in the Coromandel, installation of the Lowburn Dredge, a homemade diving suit, a power pole in Russell, rural scenes in Hamilton. Includes the oldest blacksmith in New Zealand, a waterwheel in the Carrick Ranges, lapidiaries, a car with a gasometer, Kauri carvings, a farmer repairing a fence, water bicycles, a tower of matches. Also an unusual carrot, pony traction, a travelling repairman, North Auckland Inlet transport, a postman, a whitewashed mining cottage in Arrowtown, a model railway. Women working at the Dominion Museum and the Turnbull Library, packhorses, Tahurangi Hut, Roger Kingsford and a Maori meeting house at Ohinemuri.
