Description: A woman is vacuuming, holding a baby and a history book, while two other children are doing their homework at a table. Relates to the poliomyelitis epidemic of 1947-48 when children in Auckland did not return to school until April 1948 and did lessons from the Correspondance School at home, supervised generally by their busy mothers. Description: Shows a living room in which mother sits reading while auntie looks disapproving and the schoolgirl daughter sits listening to a radio programme on how to apply cosmetics. She wears a gymfrock and is heavily made-up. Refers to a newspaper clip about a Hertfordshire school where the girls are to be taught the art of make-up. There is a newsclipping entitled 'Schoolgirls to be taught best way to make-up' in the upper left corner of the cartoon. Quantity: 1 newspaper clipping.
