Description: A line of looms for weaving woollen cloth at the premises of the Wellington Woollen Manuafacturing Co in Cornish Street, Petone, circa 1906. The men working with the looms are probably `tuners' or loom mechanics setting up the machines for women workers to operate. Taken by unidentified photographer. Note on back of file print reads: A line of looms (for weaving cloth) - the men are probably tuners (loom mechanics) because it was usually women who ran the looms. The tuners set the looms up. The operator, in those days, had to watch for breaks, stop the machine and mend them. Nowadays this is done automatically. They also filled the shuttles.
