Description

John Farr Hoggard's house and garden on the hill above Lambton Quay. Lambton Quay is shown at sea level below, with four shops running along the Quay at the foot of the hill. The roofs of further houses on The Terrace are also visible among trees. A copy of a painting by C D Barraud, copied either by John (Jack) Hoggard, son of John Farr Hoggard, or by Edith Richardson, sister-in-law of John Farr Hoggard. J F Hoggard's house was built in 1856 north of Clay Point, approximately where the Bank of New South Wales stood in the mid-20th century.

The other version, privately owned, is also a copy, by architect Jack Hoggard, son of John Farr Hoggard. It includes Barney Rhodes' horse and cart in the left foreground, in Lambton Quay.
