A boat on a shore in the foreground, in front of a fence and gate. Beyond the fence, on a low hill, is a large single-storied house, with several outbuildings, and a flag flying to the left. The house is surrounded by a well-developed garden
Inscriptions: Verso - "House in which Thomas Bartley, father of Mary who married Sir Edward Stafford, three times Prime Minister of New Zealand, lived & from which she was married on Dec 5, 1859". (Encyclopaedia of New Zealand p305 and Scholefield's Dictionary of N.Z. Biography p. 321 give accounts of the marriage taking place in England. Marriage Certificate shows they were actually married at St. Barnabas, Auckland, Dec 5th 1859; Title taken from original mounts, now discarded
