Contains cosmological notes about Io, the twelve heavens, the children of Rangi and Papa, the separation of Rangi and Papa, the ascent of Tane to fetch the baskets of knowledge, the divine origin of various items and practices, and notes about Maui and Tawhaki
Also contains notes about practices and concepts associated with the whare wananga, whakapapa (cosmological and human), and notes about the migration to, and settlement of, New Zealand
There are autobiographical notes about Te Whatahoro as well as waiata, haka and karakia
There is an extensive index at the start of the volume
