There are notes in these volumes about whakapapa (both cosmological and human), accounts of migration frrom Hawaiki to New Zealand, whakatauki, karakia and waiata, notes about various customary practices, information about the relationship between the `tangata whenua' and the Hawaiki migrants and the introduction of the kumara to New Zealand; there is also information about various prominent mountains in the North Island, and narratives about Maui and about Te Tahi-o-te-rangi
