A taller and a shorter Maori man, both with moko, performing the hongi on Picton wharf, watched by sailors on the ship moored at the wharf, and two Pakeha men and a dog standing on the wharf. According to the caption, the sailors are urging the two Maori men to hurry along, because the ship is waiting to depart. A number of the men are smoking pipes.
