Description

`Not beyond Redemption' by George Davies is a biography of Captain John Guard describing his early life in London, time in Newgate prison, work as a convict transportee, sealer, sea-captain and whaler based at Kakapo Bay in Port Underwood working between New Zealand and Sydney. John and Betty Guard and their two children were onboard the Harriet when it was wrecked off the Taranaki coast in 1834 and the biography details the subsequent experiences of the Guard family and the role the Alligator played in this incident, finishing with the subsequent farming career of John Guard at Kakapo Bay. The biography contains photographs and copies of illustrations of people and places mentioned.
