The story of the Murphy family in New Zealand from Walter Murphy born in Beagh, County Galway, Ireland, who joined the 59th Regiment in 1825 and served with them for 15 years. He came to New Zealand in 1847 with the Fencibles to Howick, bringing his wife and three children. The story then follows his only son John Joseph Murphy and his married life in Meeanee, Napier and later in Ormond, Gisborne
