The print was dated from marginal notes on the negative.
Rapata Wahawaha was born at either Te Puia or Akuaku in the Waiapu district. By his own account he was still a child when Christianity was introduced, if this refers to the East Coast district, it suggests he was born about 1820. He died at Gisborne on 1 July 1897 and was buried with military honours on the rock fortress of Puputa in the Waiomatatini Valley
