The barque Pamir setting sail leaving Wellington Heads. Taken by John Dobree Pascoe on 31 March 1944.

Original caption reads: "Safe voyage to the 'Pamir' was the wish of those who saw her sail into the distance."

The Pamir arrived in Wellington in July 1941, and made many voyages under the New Zealand flag in the 1940s. She was lost in the mid-Atlantic with all of her crew in 1957. (Information from 'Fresh about Cook Strait: an appreciation of Wellington Harbour'. Methuen, 1984, by Grahame Anderson.)
