Montage of photographs of the Waikare at Port Chalmers, the deck looking forward, the deck looking aft, the social hall and the main saloon. Photographed by David Alexander De Maus, with the montage decorated by him with shells and coral, probably done in 1897 to celebrated the first arrival of the Waikare to New Zealand as: "The 81st addition to the USSCo."
Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - centre - The 81st addition to the USSCo. S.S. Waikare." 3070 tons. 3.000 H.P. Built by W. Denny Bros., Dumbarton. Launched 27 Jan 1897. Arrived N.Z. 30 July 1897 under command of Capt. Farmer.
