Canoes drawn up in the right foreground, about a dozen buildings completed and several others (mostly European-style) being built, left foreground. Bush beyond the pa and raupo by the river, with cleared hills and the palisades of another pa in the background on a hilltop. Family groups are clustered around the new pa site.
