View taken on the Western Hills, Lower Hutt, looking down on Riddler Farm, the Petone area and Wellington Harbour, circa 1890 to 1892. Somes Island is visible in distance. Thought to be taken at Christmas. In foreground are a three limbed cabbage tree, 'Ratanui' House (home of Sir James Hector), and a group of women, children, and a man, on the left which may be members of the Hector family. Photographer unidentified.
