Contains letters from Maori to Colenso about the activities of Maori teachers, parishioners, and others, requests for religious texts, medicine and other items, reports of illnesses and deathes, news about internal community conflicts, and letters seeking forgiveness; within this, there is a great deal of information about Maori society in Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay in the 1850s

Includes one letter about the activities of Te Horo, a religious leader at Mataikona (see Elsmore, 1989 'Mana from Heaven' pp 119-122)
