This petition represents what is believed to be the first scheme put forward by an Englishman to exploit Australia and the adjacent islands. Also included is a petition from Welbe to Robert Walpole, protesting the falseness of the charges which had resulted in his being gaoled in King's Bench Prison, where these petitions were written
A broadsheet referring to the scheme had been printed previously but of this only one copy (in Bibliotheque Nationale) exists
