Original owner was Thomas Cunningham Taylor who purchased 200 acres in 1873 near Ashburton. In 2007 the property originally named Ford Creek Farm, Ashton was renamed `Ahitana', the Maori named for Ashton. In 2007 the farm was owned by Thomas' great-great-grandson Dean Taylor.
In 2006 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
