Description

Shows a view of houses and a sailing ship at a bay, possibly in Whangaroa Harbour Northland. The ship with furled sails is at the left, reflected in calm water, beside a rowing boat holding two figures and some supplies. The background shows craggy fluted cliffs with a central waterfall descending to a point behind a thatched hut, and there is a row of four huts along the road at the right. A figure leads a white horse along this road. At the far right timber lengths are propped up for storage in an A-shape. A track descends diagonally to the left from the road to the water's edge.

In gilt frame.

Title supplied by auctioneer.

Auctioneer suggested that the sailing ship may have been a later addition to the painting.
