A large potato patch at Lustleigh farm, Devonshire, worked by World War I New Zealand soldiers awaiting discharge. Shows two soldiers standing among the plants. Farm buildings are in the middle distance. View looks towards grassy fields and trees. Photograph taken by Thomas Frederick Scales.

Lustleigh was one of the farms of the New Zealand Discharge Depot at Torquay, Devonshire that operated in World War I. New Zealanders unfit for military service worked on 200 acres of land 14 miles from Torquay. Farms profits were shared with the Torquay Borough Council. (H T B Drew, NZ Army at Home)
