Cannon placed on Britomart Reserve in 1908 and described as being from the HMS Britomart, a British naval vessel which came to Akaroa in 1840 to demonstrate British sovereignity over the South Island. The 1808 Kinman cannon had been sent out by the British Admiralty for display at the 1906-1907 International Exhbition held in Christchurch. The cannon had ben requested by Akaroa Mayor Etienne Le Lievre. After the closure of the Exhibition, the cannon was sent to Akaroa. It is the same type of cannon that would have been on the HMS Britomart, but is not from the Britomart itself.
