Photograph of a toast card produced for the farewell breakfast given at Blackwall, England, on the 30th of July, 1850, for colonists departing for Canterbury, New Zealand. Toasts were to be made to: the Queen; Prince Albert and the royal family; the Church and the bishop designate of Lyttelton; The army and navy; the departing colonists; John Robert Godley; Lord Lyttelton; and to the success of Canterbury. The list of speakers included: Lord Lyttelton, Rev W Sewell, Earl Nelson, the Bishop of Norwich, Lord Wharncliffe, J Simeon (MP), J E Fitzgerald, Lord J Manners, and W G Brittan. The following songs were listed: the National Anthem; Das ist der Vaterland; The Christ Church bells; Rule Britannia; Hearts of Oak; A Health to the Outward Bound; The Fine Old English Gentleman; and Should Auld Aquaintance Be Forgot.
