- Description
Two waka huia or carved Maori treasure boxes (top and bottom). In the centre is a carved Polynesian club, probably from the Marquesas. The images are copies of engravings by R. Ralph from drawings by B. J. F. Miller of artifacts taken back to England by James Cook after his first visit to the South Pacific. The engravings were originally published in Hawkesworth, J. An account of the voyages ... in the Southern Hemisphere. (London, 1773)
