Description

Consists of 7 letters, transcripts of these letters and a genealogical table of the Reese/Dalziel family showing the relationships of people mentioned in the letters. Five of the letters are written by Anne Dawson (Reese). Letters dated June 1866, May 1884, July 1884 and Dec 1888 are to her parents and one dated Jan 1888 to her sister Marion (?). The letter by Anne Dawson dated July 1884 includes a note from her husband Joseph Dawson. Of the other two letters one is written by Maggie Dalziel Reese to her aunt Anne Dawson, dated Jan 1885. The final letter in this collection was probably written by Marion Reese to her niece Josephine Dalziel Daniel (Dawson). The date and authorship of this letter is based on internal evidence as there is only a fragment of the letter.

All the letters are primarily about family affairs and happenings in the local district. Joseph Dawson's note is concerned with the electioneering in which he was involved on behalf of Mr McCardle. Anne's brother Daniel Reese was subsequently elected to a Christchurch seat.
