Description

Portrait of Hami Te Hau of Ngati Kahungunu, wearing a korowai (tag cloak), photographed between 1870 and 1890, probably by Samuel Carnell of Napier.

Photographer identified by comparison with other prints in the collection. This print was probably made early in the 20th century from the original negative.

The korowai appears in other portraits by Carnell, and was probably owned by the studio.

The sitter's moko has been highlighted with greasepaint.
