Funeral procession for Stephanus Beban. The undertaker is T L Ralfe of Hokitika. Copy of a photograph taken on 18 May 1911 by Ben Thiem.
Previously identified as funeral procession of George Taylor, 17 September 1914.
Corrected to Stephanus Beban (18 May 1911) after contact by family member.
"I have two photographs taken by Ben Thiem - Nos 1081 and 1082.
Photo 1082 has 4 of his sons carrying his coffin towards St Patrick's church on Scandinavian Street, Stafford (the road to the Cemetery). The hearse is parked on High Street travelling towards Hokitika not in the direction of the Stafford Cemetery.
T.L. Ralfe, the undertaker, advertised in the West Coast Times on 17th May 1911 that the funeral would move from his late residence, Tunnel Terrace (Goldsborough) on Thursday 18th at 1 O'Clock and St Patrick's Church Stafford at 2 O'Clock arriving at the Hokitika Town Boundary at 3:30 o'clock. Stephanus is buried in the Hokitika Cemetery.
By contrast George Taylor's funeral was advertised by HA Thompson undertaker on 19th September 1914 inviting his friends to follow his remains to the Stafford Cemetery from his late residence Stafford."
