Description

Te Ua Haumene with his hand held up in greeting seated and wearing a korowai. Photographer unidentified.

Inscriptions: Verso - The Prophet Te Ua Haumene The originator of the Hau Hau religion. First started the Pai Marire (good and tranquil) doctrine at Taranaki about the year 1861. Was taken prisoner during the war subsequently liberated came back to Taranaki and died at Oeo - The Hau Hau religion spread all over the north island of NZ in a very short space of time.
