Description

Sketch drawings with colour notes, showing early Christchurch houses and churches, and the Provincial Council Chambers, St Michael and All Angels Church, a windmill, flax and cabbage trees along the river bank, a bridge, and the Port Hills in the distance.

Artist may be Rev James West Stack (see similar style of image at A-210-016; Government Buildings Canterbury. [1860?]) One of the images C-081-007 has the name Thompson on the verso.

One drawing shows three shops including Albion House [milliner] and Papp[rill, tailor]. These two are listed in Canterbury almanacs for 1860-early 1870s. Another drawing shows St Michael and All Angels, which was built in 1872.
