Coastal view on Motuarohia Island, Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand. View incluses a bay, a beach and a hill sloping down to the sea. Photographed by Russell Duncan on the 19th of July 1914.
Inscriptions: Album page - Cook's first voyage. Motu Arohia Island, Bay of Islands. The "Endeavour" was anchored under the S.W. side. This view shows where Captain Cook first landed in the Bay of Islands on 30 Nov 1769 - . It is assumed so because it was the nearest beach to the ship - . There is a cave in the point to the right - . This would tally with where some of the natives hid themselves. See Wharton's Cook p 166.
