Caption of file print reads: 'NZers on a gun portee as a convoy makes its way up the Halfaya Pass in November during the 8 Army advance in North Africa. Loaded with ammunition and men's personal gear and the inevitable billy, the truck gives a good impression of an army vehicle in the middle of a campaign when circumstances have compelled the abandoning of 'training layout'. The informal dress typical of such occasions is noticeable, even the Afrika Korps hat worn by the central man.' Photograph taken circa November 1942 by Harold Gear Paton.
