A standing portrait of Whakauenuku, a Maori boy

One of four proof lithographs on a single sheet measuring 447 x 285 mm. All four are derived from lithographs by G. F. Angas in The New Zealanders illustrated (London, 1847). This is adapted from part of the lithograph titled 'Ko nga Waka Te Karaka (or Clark), the Christian chief of the Ngati-Waroa tribe, Waikato, and Wakauenuku his attendant boy', Plate 47, showing a seated Maori chief in European clothing alongside a standing boy in a flax cloak.
