D class steam locomotive, NZR no 197, with group of railway workmen, photographed by Albert Percy Godber, between 1899-1916.
Dated from information on back of file print of photograph 1/2-129717 which states: "197 D class Neilson Loco (1844/74) in service 5.4.79-1916" and from information on Godber which states that he started taking photographs circa 1899.
NZR no 197, D class steam locomotive, 2-4-0T, was built by Neilson & Co., Glasgow, went into service in April 1879, was sold in 1916, and written off in 1921.
