Shows several houses along the shore, including a two-storeyed house with verandah and dormer window along the front. There is a rowing boat in the centre foreground, on water between rocks.
Artist is thought to be a female member of the family of Lancelot Holmes, who was appointed pilot for the port of Wellington in 1870.
