Detail of a kitchen interior showing a woman drying dishes. The sink bench is wooden and the walls and bench cupboards are constructed of match lining (tongue and groove).
"Crockery is stacked in the built-in sink and on top of the bench, along with milk bottles, and an old Cerebos salt container holds utensils. The woman, identified as Eileen McMahon, is wearing a frilly apron and has a bangle on her upper right arm." (Information from caption used in "Darling, I'm home!" display).
Exhibited in 'Darling, I'm Home!' exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand, 1 June - 5 July 1999.
The model in this photograph is Eileen McMahon. She was Gordon Burt's receptionist and, like other members of his staff, modeled for the firm's commercial photographs. In 1937 Gordon Burt and Eileen McMahon married. Photograph taken by Gordon Burt.
