Mr Thomas Edward Donne, who worked for the High Commission in London (subsequent to his 1901-1909 career as Secretary of the newly-created New Zealand Department of Tourist and Health Resorts), in his top hat and dress coat, parading in a London street with a sandwich board advertising for immigrants to work as domestic servants in New Zealand. His sandwich board reads - New Zealand wants domestic servants. Rich country. Fine climate. Good wages. Work waiting. Fare £2, 16 shillings. New Zealand the Britain of the South. Advance your life. Extended Title - Taking advantage of a large gathering of women, Mr T. Donne, of the High Commissioner's Office, London, paraded a number of sandwich boards calling the attention of passers-by that New Zealand wanted servant girls. Duke Donne - 'Got to show this new Reform Party that's come into power that I've got brains and am working for my screw'.
