Description

The bulk of this collection is a record of a late 1930s refurbishment of the interiors of the Royal Oak Hotel, Wellington. As such it is a very good record of style and lavish taste in interior decor for the period. There are also photographs of the exterior of the hotel ca 1945, and of a reception for Gracie Fields from the same year

At the far end is the bar with barman and plywood veneered surround. A waiter stands in the far right hand corner of the room. The ceiling is made up of simply moulded plaster giving a mild steam lined appearance. A frosted glass light bowl hangs from three chains.
