Description

Widening of Mercer Street, Wellington city, 1928. Photographer unidentified.

Note on back of file print reads "In 1928 Mercer St. was widened on its northern side between Willis & Victoria Streets. This involved removing portions of the fronts of the buildings along that side of the street, and building a new street frontage called Mercer Buildings. The Mercer Buildings were demolished in May 1987 and the Mercer Towers Building was built on this site between about June 1987 and September 1989."
