James and Mary Wallis were Methodist missionaries and the first European settlers in Raglan. Their eldest son William Henry Wallis and his wife settled at Okete in about 1858, and their eldest son, Arthur, who married Ada Burton, built \"Overton\" at Okete, which is still owned by the Wallis family. (From Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia: James and Mary Wallis.)
According to R T Vernon in his book \"Te Uku,\" Hamilton [NZ], Rice Printers, 1975, Ch 21, Wallis Family \"Overton\" Okete Falls, page 59, Arthur Wallis built their home across across the bay from the old homestead known as \"Overton.\" The name \"Overton\" came from that given by Captain J C Johnston to his adjoining section. It was the Captain's intention to survey the part of his property overlooking the Harbour and Bridle Creek into township sections and he named the area \"Overton Village.\"
