View looking along the eastern shore of Lake Taupo towards the south, with Motutaiko Island, Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu in the distance. On a shore in the left foreground is a small group of Maori with two canoes and fishing nets at the water's edge. Two further canoes in the water to the right.
By the same hand as A-048-025 The Southern Alps.
Corresponds closely to the chromolithograph in: Hochstetter, F. von. New Zealand, its physical geography. Stuttgart, 1867, p. 364. The image is likely either to be prepared for lithography from Hochstetter's original or copied from the volume.
