A taro plant growing
Joppien / Smith number 3.295. Possibly the work of Webber, rather than Ellis, whose style is less free. The plant may have been drawn at Hawaii, Tahiti or Tonga. This same plant can be seen in the bottom right corner of one of John Webber's views of Hawaii, 'An offering before Captain Cook in the Sandwich Islands'(1779) and also, reversed, bottom left in another drawing of Tonga, A view in Annomooka, one of the Friendly Isles, (1777?)
