An athlete wearing t shirt and running shoes has run past the signposts for the 1968 and 1972 Olympics and is heading towards the 1976 Olympics. He is kitted out with grenades, a flame-thrower, knives, guns, cartridges, a spade, etc. The 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City had been marred by the gunning down of civilians protesting against expenditure on the Games instead of for the poor prior to the Games opening (260 were killed and 1200 wounded). At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich after a group of Palestinian guerrillas had invaded the Games village eleven Israeli athletes and three Palestinians died.
