Application form submitted by Ross George Hayes; history of the Hayes family's ownership; land documents to support the application; newspaper cutting re 1892 sale of the land; photograph of Benjamin, his son George & grandson George Braddon Hayes, 1927.
Original owner was Benjamin Hayes who acquired 1000 acres at Halkett, 20 km from Christchurch in 1893 from Charles Deal. In 2004 his great grandson Ross George Hayes became the sole owners having been a part owner since 1971.
In 2007 the property was awarded the New Zealand Century Farm and Station award to mark over 100 years of continuous ownership by one family.
