Queen Street wharf in the foreground, with barrels and packages, a man seated on some luggage and another pushing a barrow. Canoes drawn up at the shoreline, the buildings along the waterfront and a view looking up Queen Street with Partington's Windmill on the skyline.
Copied from a wood engraving in the Illustrated London News, 23 April 1853, p. 304, in its turn derived from Standidge & Co.'s engraving (after P J Hogan's painting of 1852)
Another very similar copy by Hatton, with the same provenance as this watercolour, is located at B-078-011. The Mitchell Library, Sydney, holds a further watercolour copy by Hatton, their reference number V7B/AUCK/14. It includes fewer buildings and other details than the Turnbull's two copies
