Members of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade at the front in Stokes Trench, operating a mortar. Photographed some time in 1918 by Henry Armytage Sanders.
Franck Bruyere, a citizen of Le Quesnoy, identified this as on the road beteen Le Quesnoy and Beaudignies. He also stated that it was at a place called "Linden."May 2008.
Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom left - H1308
The location is the embanked road between Le Quesnoy and Beaudignies, about three km from Le Quesnoy, at a place locally known as "linden" (or "tilleul"in French). A house nearby had a linden or lime tree in it's garden.
